Freelancers and small business owners encounter challenges related to transparency and accessibility in their financial dealings. Traditional banking falls short in catering to the unique needs of this niche market, lacking a tailored experience for freelancers and small businesses. The absence of a holistic solution impedes the financial stability and growth prospects for freelancers and small business owners.
The Problem
The objective of this project is to develop an app that empowers freelances and small business owners to feel confident in managing their own finances. We strive to create a streamlined process for monitoring cash flow, expenses, and revenue, while also providing capabilities like invoice creation and payment tracking. Fluid aspires to serve as an all-in-one financial management tool, specifically designed to meet the distinctive needs of our target audience.

To gain deeper insights into our target audience, we conducted user research, including interviews, surveys, and competitive analysis.This helped gather a comprehensive understanding of our audience’s pain points and areas of satisfaction.
We sent surveys to 90 freelancers and small business owners to gather data on their opinions on the existing financial management apps currently in the market.

Design Challenge
How might we create an app that addresses the limitations of traditional banks for freelancers and small business owners but also delivers a customised, transparent, and user-friendly financial management experience, empowering our target audience to confidently handle their finances?
Phase 2: DEFINE THE FOCUS
Personas & Information Architecture
Next, we created 3 personas and an information architecture to better understand and empathise with my potential users.

After identifying the information architecture, we started by collecting UI Inspirations for each screen that we wanted to include and then took it to pen and paper to do the first round of exploratory sketches before finalising them into wireframes.
